Money, Trash, Homes header

Hi hi!

Sorry for the break — we’ve been caught up helping folks make room in their homes. Turns out people need space in their New York apartments. Who knew?

Anywho, enjoy our latest edition of Money, Trash, Homes!

45 million Americans use eight paper towel rolls a month. At $2 a roll, we’re talking about $192 a year that could go into your pocket. Since we have trouble figuring out what to do with our clothing, why not solve two problems at once by making cloth napkins from old clothes (see Homes). If you’re going to stick with paper towels, don’t forget — compost them since they can't be recycled.

We are now wearing more polyester (plastic) than natural fibers. The biggest issue with this shift: the ease and stability of polyester encourages companies to produce a lot of cheap, yet unrecyclable fashion. Now don’t run out and start wearing wool this summer. Instead, take the time to suss out the complexity of the fashion industry.

If you’ve ever worked at a start-up, then you have some bad shirts in your closet. Don’t burn’em, turn them into cloth napkins.
